BUDAPEST MILLENIUM UNDERGROUND

 

The first underground line on the continent. Built in 1895-96 by “cut and cover” method for the millenary celebrations of the settlement of Hungarians. Millenium Underground Railway line became a Word Heritage Site in 2002 along with Andrássy Avenue.

Programme
Decrease suburban car traffic by line extension and new P+R facilities at new terminal. Transform historic stations to accommodate increased commuter traffic. Provide lifts and necessary adjustments to ensure disabled access. Design two new underground stations along the existing line to improve public transport connections.

Hungaria Ave station
Create a direct link to Tram line No.1.
Create urban connections to the new entrance of Budapest Zoo. Complicated construction site under busy highway junction.
